Winter in Rochester, New York is often when problems in the structural integrity of homes and buildings can come to light. While the weather is its own inconvenience, the fact that many people believe repairs and improvements cannot be done in the wintertime, or cannot be done as successfully, can add to the stress and concern when problems do arise.
With snow often stretching from late October even to early April in upstate New York, that can be a long time to wait for a repair and it can also be a very long time for us to wait to assist you. We want to assure you that we are here to help, and can do so successfully, all year round. We want to clear up a few misconceptions we often hear about vinyl siding and construction in the winter.
Siding CAN be Installed in the Winter Months
That’s right, there is no reason to put off residing a home just because there is snow on the ground. If you’re interested in vinyl siding there is no reason to put it off until spring or summer. Just as everyone else goes about his regular business in the winter months, we do too. It would be almost impossible to run a business this far north if it couldn’t function in the cold. It is even possible to “re-side” over existing wood paneling in the cold. Summer heat can actually be more detrimental to work than the cold of winter, because if the temperature climbs too high then the vinyl can expand, hindering measurements and timing.
Contractors DO Work in the Winter
There is no winter vacation for paneling and construction experts. We work in the snow all the time, especially being located in the Rochester area. Again, if we took the “winter” off we’d likely be out of jobs for more than half the year, and that wouldn’t be sustainable. Our business and your homes stay stable and successful because we are available all year round. The winter may actually be a better time for you to look into siding or re-siding your house because often, due to common misconceptions, our schedules are much more flexible when there is snow on the ground.
A “Re-Side” Will NOT Affect the Performance of the Vinyl
We know that it’s scary enough to consider a major home repair or remodel and the stress can increase as you wonder about inclement weather. As we’ve mentioned, the winter is a fine time to start a project. Beyond worrying about when to start a project many people worry that a “re-side” will not be as effective as a complete replacement (no matter what time of year). This is just another misconception. In fact, a re-side can save owners a significant amount of money, in the winter or the summer, while the performance and stability offered by new vinyl siding are not diminished in the slightest.
Don’t let the weather or common misconceptions fool you – we are always available!
